We gladly announce that now we have 10 new farmer field schools, meaning that a total of 12 farmer field schools have been established. Dr. Uthpal Kumar (Wageningen University and Khulna University) manage to implement the meteoblue and FarmerSupport APP (WATERAPP) across the regions during his visit. He told us that farmers are able to interpret the meteoblue forecast diagrams for weekly (7 days), biweekly (14 days), and seasonal (months) forecasts. Moreover, farmers now recognize the importance of weather forecasts obtained from the FarmerSupport APP to take better decision-making in their daily farming activities. Farmers who attended the farmer school also help peer farmers by sharing forecast information. By doing so, many non-participants farmers now proactively ask forecast information to the weather school farmers.
The following picture shows the farmer field school participants taken during Uthpal visit to the Rajshahi district. From the picture below, it is seen that both male and female farmers in the Rajshahi district have installed the FarmerSupport APP on their mobile phones and had training on the use of the APP. They look so enthusiastic about the Apps and will use the Apps in future farming decision-making. Uthpal told us that many farmers share the same enthusiasm with them.
Farmer field school in the Rajshahi district, Bangladesh
Many farmers said that the farmer field school has improved their confidence for tactical and strategic decision-making for crops. In the next coming months, we are hoping to see many encouraging feedbacks from the farmers. We also hope that Uthpal mission hopefully will bring many benefits to farmers in Bangladesh.
